As part of the vibrant FrankfurtRhineMain metropolitan region, the district of Offenbach stands for economic strength, social diversity, and a strong commitment to sustainability. With 13 municipalities and over 360,000 residents, the district combines urban quality of life with forward-looking initiatives that support the transition to a climate-neutral and circular society.

In close cooperation with Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences (Frankfurt UAS), the district works to strengthen the exchange between applied research, education, and municipal practice. Through the regional initiative Standort Plus, which unites local authorities, the chamber of commerce and industry, and the crafts sector, new spaces for innovation and practical collaboration have been created.
This partnership facilitates the implementation of sustainable and innovative solutions that address pressing societal challenges. Whether through joint research activities, knowledge transfer, or practical involvement of students in regional projects, the Offenbach district actively fosters dialogue between academia and local stakeholders.

The district also initiates and supports events that engage the public in the transition process. One example is the Energy Transition Day, taking place on 21 June 2025 at the district hall in Dietzenbach, which offers information and inspiration on topics such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable building renovation. In addition, the district hosts a publicly accessible Cool Spots Map on its website, helping citizens to locate shaded areas and drinking fountains, and thereby promoting local resilience in the face of rising urban temperatures.

These efforts reflect a clear alignment with several Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), and SDG 13 (Climate Action). By contributing to the U!REKA network as an associated partner, the district of Offenbach helps to bridge the gap between research and real-world application, and supports the European mission of building climate-neutral, inclusive, and forward-thinking cities.
