Lisbon: Commitment and Leadership in Climate Action

As Portugal's capital, Lisbon stands out for its ambition to lead the transition to a more sustainable, resilient and inclusive future. Lisbon is firmly committed to tackling the challenges of climate change and achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. The city has been implementing policies that combine mitigation, adaptation and resilience, placing climate action at the heart of its sustainable development strategy.

In 2022, Lisbon was selected by the European Commission to join the ‘100 Climate Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030’ mission. In March 2024, the Lisbon City Climate Contract 2030 was recognised by the European Union with the EU Mission Label — a distinction awarded to cities whose ‘climate contracts’ have been approved by the Commission, valuing the vision, action plan and investment strategy that define the city's commitment to climate neutrality by 2030.
