Research impact statement

I help leaders navigate major economic transitions by replacing guesswork with scientific measurement and addressing innovation, entrepreneurship and research as the main tools to create a better world.

How this translates to action:
I am dedicated to advancing strategic management and entrepreneurship with a strong focus on fostering innovation across key sectors including health, agriculture, blue economy, and creative industries. My research aims to accelerate the transition towards sustainable and circular economic models by integrating multidisciplinary approaches that promote systemic change. Through collaboration with academia, industry, and policy makers, I strive to generate actionable knowledge that empowers organizations and communities to innovate responsibly, maximize resource efficiency, and contribute to a regenerative circular society.

Biography

Educational background

I hold an extensive academic background in Business Management, with a focus on Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship. I hold a PhD in Management, obtained with the first thesis on entrepreneurship ever written in Portugal. I also hold an MBA and a degree in Economics. 
As a professor at ISCAL, the oldest business school in Portugal, I combine theory and practice, enriching my teaching and research with real-world applications. My education has equipped me with strong analytical skills and a comprehensive understanding of innovation, economic transitions, and sustainable development principles.  

Academic experience

My academic expertise lies primarily in Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship, with a multidisciplinary approach that integrates innovation management, circular economy concepts, and sustainability transitions. I have deep knowledge in business model innovation, ecosystem development, and value creation within emerging sectors such as health, blue economy, agriculture, and creative industries. My work also encompasses the analysis of economic transitions and the role of institutions in fostering sustainable growth.  

Industry experience

I bring practical experience collaborating with diverse sectors, including renewable energy, technology startups, cultural industries, and sustainability-focused enterprises. Through partnerships with organizations like ANJE, AERLIS, and others, I have gained insights into market dynamics, ecosystem building, and scaling innovative business ideas. My involvement in EU-funded projects and engagement with industry stakeholders allows me to bridge academic research and real-world business challenges effectively.
